Missing hose on 95 E320T?
 

I was hoping someone could help me with this. I have owned a 95 E320 wagon for almost 2 years now. Recently I have learned a lot about the car just from reading the posts on this site. With the guidance of the site, I have repaired my passenger seat head rest (thanks!).

While poking around under the hood of the car, I have found out that I will eventually need to replace the engine wiring harness. The other thing that concerns me is that one of the auxiliary pumps that is run on the serpentine belt has an empty outlet with no hose attached to it. I can't figure out what this pump is. It is located on the right (passenger) side and above the alternator. I have included a picture here. The white arrow is pointing to the empty outlet on the pump. Is this supposed to go somewhere? Or should it at least be covered so dirt does not get in? To orient you, the fan is on the left and the exhaust manifold is on the right, the top of the picture is the air filter housing and the bottom is the engine.

BTW, can anyone recommend a print service manual (not CD) for this car? Thanks.

Maybe for the smog pump, im just guessing for that.

Engine wiring harness is like 1000 dollars at least. My friend bought one reciently.

yes, that's where a upside down U shaped hose goes for the overboard smog pump vent. It just vents to the atmosphere.

As far as a print manual, no clue. I've found the factory CD's to be complex and hard to navigate around but have had great luck using ALLDATA. It's the only place I go now for technical information and it's always up to date.

Good luck with the wiring harness, I haven't had to change mine but I understand that it's not that hard to do with some basic mechanical/wiring knowledge. Just a remove and replace item, that from the some of the posts here, sounds like an afternoon project.

Wow, that's really clean right there. How many miles on your wagon?

dtf: I don't have nearly as many miles as you do. I just broke 80k miles. Since I bought the car used, the previous owner probably cleaned it really well before selling it.

JetForeman: I agree with you that the factory CD's are so hard to navigate and so sloooowwww. I would find it much easier to have a printed manual to thumb through.

So it sounds like this hose is no big deal. However, with the opening exposed upward like that, is there fear of stuff falling in that should not get in there?

There should be a U shaped hose that is for venting. It probably fell off and it sitting on top of the engine encapsulation panel under your engine.

I believe the bolts are 8mm to lower it, try just the front to get your hand in there.

Just order vent cap part # 104-140-00-81.
It is a nice Aluminum vent cap that snaps in place and is much better than the later inverted hose.
Should be cheap, if you can find one as old stock..dealer item
