merc c200-1997-rattling noise from front of engine

hi board.

the car is a 1997 c200 uk spec car,petrol engine.

i have noticed an annoying sound from the front of the engine while it is idling-it makes the car almost sound like a diesel.

anyone come across this before?

On the USA M111 engines (2.3L) they modified the belt tensioner & added a belt tensioner shock absorber.

thanks for the response..

my car has a belt tension shock absorber and when i press it firmly while the car is idling,the dieseling sound disappears.

will a new shock absorber cure this?

i wish to change the the drivebelt tensioner shock absorber.

anyone know how to do this??

how does one take of the tensioner pulley on its own?.
