I have recently fitted a 300d to my dodge ram . It is an 78 (not vacuum model) When starting off hot or cold it will start off in second ,if you can kick it down to first with full throttle . Have changed oil & screen there is no flare when shifting & all shifts are smooth . Engine & trans fitted as complete unit , have tried adjusting rod from throttle to trans but put it back to original setting as this caused flare between second & third

I thought they always started in 2nd...

All MB trannys of that year start in second gear unless full throttle is applied
