I just drained my whole AC system. How much Compressor OIL should I put? Is it bad if I put too much?

Did you remove any oil??? Did you flush?

What kind of car? Compressor? refrigerant? If you are starting with a new clean system most MBs take around seven ounces of oil.

It is definitely worse to have too much oil than too little. Too much oil overworks the compressor and/or will lock it up. To little oil reduces lubrication and leads to the worse kinds of compressor failures; those that scatter debris throughout the system.

Took out the compressor and drained it. Put back about 20-30ml. Did not flush. Now that you said it - How do I flush the system? I would definitely want to.

The car is an 85' 300D (W124) Euro. Freon is R12. Compressor is rotary type NIPPONDENSO for MB.

So after I flush, is it safe to put back 7 ounces?

Flushing requires special tools and chemicals. We use three different techniques and solvents depending upon the conditions we are dealing with.

Before giving advise I would need to know the condition of the system and the reason for its repair.

The 124 body evaporator is very hard to flush as it takes multiple paths. It is easy to wind up with flush left in the system; the worst of all things.

If there is no debris we would use a flushing adapter to our recycler. It uses freon to flush the oil back through a fiter into the recycler. This works for oil but not for debris. To remove debris you need violent action which this method doesn't provide.

No debris I think. I just changed the compressor to a reconditioned one. The old one had a leak and was kinda low on compression. I just want to get all the compressor oil and freon out of the system so I have everything FRESH and NEW.

Can I just run SOLVENT through the whole system and push it through the hoses with compressed air?

Or do I have to take out the DRYER TANK and EXPANSION VALVE before doing so.

I do know that on the 124 the total fill when new is 120cc. This is about 4 OZ. Not 7. I check with the manufacturer of the compressor and see how much for that one.
