Very informative. Thanks.

Which do you think has the better longevity - M113 or M119, and do they both have the same fragile chain rail problems shared by the M116/117 motors?

I think they're both pretty tough, The 112/113 motor isn't as "proven" I guess you'd say? So far so good. I'd give the 119 "the edge" in durability overall.

How about the chain rails? Same fragility as in the M116/117?

Gilly 08-22-2003 09:59 PM

No, they're good.

Gilly,

Thanks very much for the nice post on the M119 vs. M112/M113 differences.

I think I neeeeeed a 1997 E420.

It's a shame it's more or less an overlooked model.

Do you know how these two models (E420 vs. E430 differed in actual performance (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.)?

On the links you provided, they have the same HP, and nearly the same torque. It's amazing that MB went to the new engine design, yet seemingly show no increase in power.

The E420 is listed as:

Net power 275 hp/205 kw @ 5,700 rpm

Net torque 295 lb-ft/400 N.m @ 3,900 rpm

The E430 is listed as:

Net power 275 hp @ 5,750 rpm

Net torque 295 lb-ft @ 3,000-4,400 rpm

They are both electronically limited to 250km/h top speed,
the E420 0 to 100km/h (60ish mph) time is 7.0 sec, the same run on the E430 is 6.6 sec.
