1971 Mercedes-Benz : 200-Series on ebay for $40,000???
 

Hello,

I see a 1971 Mercedes-Benz : 200-Series going for 40grand with 6 bids and the reserve is not met yet either..

I know somone with a 1969 250S. Would the value of this car in restored condition come anywhere close to 40,000?

Actually not a scam - that car is a '71 3.5 cabrio, apparently restored to a very high standard. May not be your way to spend (now) 61 large, but it's still got a ways to go. I would guess the reserve is at least 70, maybe 75.

These are very nice cars, highly valued by collectors. The money goes for the cabrios, even the 3.5 coupes are generally worth half of the cabrios. The rest of the late '60s - early '70's cars, with the exception of the SL's are not valued very highly, at least financially.

About a year ago, a '74 BMW went for about that much,
 

but it was Jackie Onassis's car. Sandy Koufax's 3.0CSi is a much rarer and more collectible model, but sold for considerably less than Jackie's ordinary Bavaria, if I remember correctly.

It is possible for a 3.5 Cab to fetch over $75K if it's the right car. They are rare, collectible, and highly prized cars. Wrecks are worth more than you'd imagine (like $25-30K US).

I saw a 100-point concours 3.5 Cab fetch nearly $100K US a few years back.

Wow. Did anyone notice that Bruce Strauss restored the car? If this car goes for less than $75,000 it was a very good price.
