My 300SD is incredibly slow first thing in the morning until the temp gauge reads 60 degrees (C). It gets better after that, but I dont know what 'normal' feels like as I just purchased the car about a week ago. Could this be a sign of boost pressure or injector timing being out of adjustment? I replaced the filters and I think the new air filter may have helped a bit. I also plan to adjust the valves. Any advice is apprecieated. Thanks

Make sure the anaroid line is clean. Also you may need to have it adjusted (the anaroid pressure).

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned the line that looked gunked-up and goes from the intake manifold over to the black valve on the firewall (but did not actually dismantle anything to ensure jets or orifices are clean). It did not have an affect. It seems a good bet that there is an aneroid pressure problem since it also ties with my transmission shifting issue (other post). Was this the line you meant, or was it another? And how might I actually check proper pressure with my pressure gauge?

I don't know about Alaska either, but as the owner of a 300D Turbo for 17 years, I can tell you that in Virginia they run slow until they warm up. It is the nature of diesels - combustion efficiency is partially dependent on engine temperature. Ours got slower as it got older and lost compression. It got a boost when the injectors were replaced.

Ahhh! You weren't listening. Benzmac had the answer. The lines to the aneroid only affects power once the rpms are up and the engine goes into boost. If your off the line power is worse than a 190Dc w/auto then you have an ADJUSTMENT problem.

One other thing to mention here.. I would not recommend getting on the throttle first thing in the morning when the engine is still cold and the oil is still thick. Give it light throttle until you're at least at 60 degrees celsius on the gauge, then you can get up and go! I always always go very light on the gas in all of my cars until they are warmed up. What ever happened with this? Did you clean the line or make the adjustment?

Yes, I did clean the line and did an adjustment and it runs great now. Much better power off the line and the transmission seems to shift better, as well.
