How does the vacuum modulator come out of the trans?

I need to replace the vacuum modulator on my 1990 190E 2.6. I was checking the gas and filling up with trans fluid every 75 miles. I pulled the vacuum line from the modulator and trans fluid came out of the line.
I don't know if you twist it and pull it out or what. Please help.
