Winding Sound When Starting Car with Key
 

Hi All,
I just want to be proactive with my car.I found out recently that my car starts harshly and nowadays as i operate or try to start my car with the key ,i hear a grinding noise like "hunnnmmmm" then it starts.

The car still starts and infact until i try to start the car again before i hear the sound again.

please what do i need to check and are there any parts linked to the key starter ,ignitio etc that may be proactively changed.

I hate to get stranded on the road one day cos i was careless.

Hi Ladi,

I don't know your car, but a really grinding noise when turning the key (ever heart somebody try to start the car while engine was already running?) is the starter not catching the ringgear as the gear is worn out on some part.

In front of the bellhousing is a little window that can be opened and then you can see part of the ringgear. Take off the two bolts and the cover. Have someone turn the engine slowly (or use a large screwdriver as I saw the MB mechanic do when he showed me the chewed up ringgear on my car.
