Gear delay for 94 S500

I went to MB dealer today for the reverse gear delay. when I shift the to reverse , it take about 3 seconds to get into rerverse gear. I asked the tech in MB, they said there are two ways to fix it. one is do the adjustment, another one is change the new transmission. the price for the fist one is about $2700, and $3000 for the new transmission. (prices include labor).
hmmm.....so anyone has any clue for that delay shifting problem and also the prices??
