speedometer/odometer 107

I have an 87 560 SL, purchased recently. The speedometer occasionally does not work as well as the odometer. Someone said to me the cable may be loose in the back of the speedometer. Can I check this myself and how do I access it? Also how is this cable attached. Any help would be appreciated. Please step by step instructions. I am a novice. Thanks.
