W123 Hood Latch Cable
 

W123. Is the hood latch cable adjustable? This is the cable attached to the pull handle inside the car. How is this done or does it need to be replaced?

There should be a minute amount of adjustment that can be made. There is a turnbuckle on the cable at the latch end. Look closely the turnbuckle is probably up under the radiator support and you might have to remove the latch to access the adjustment. The latch is retained by four large phillips head screws.

Remember there is only a little bit of adjustment, if you can't get the slack out just get a new cable. Inexpensive and not too difficult to replace.

Yeah, I'm going to order a new cable. I took the latch off, cleaned and re-lubed it and it's not so scary now. BUT, it will be replaced as soon as I figure everything out. Looks like a PIA but I may well be wrong.
