Wipers stop half way down windshield
Hello, I have a curious problem with my W123. The windshield wipers work normally, exept for when I turn them off. When they are turned off, they stop half way between the top of the windshield and the dash. When I switch the wipers back on, they resume working normally from top to bottom with the full range of motion. Then swithing them off, same thing, they stop half way down the windshield.
It seems to me that there must be an electrical contact plate or something that is inside the wiper motor housing that determines the stop position. Could it have moved or worn? Anyone ever have this kind of problem? Gary |

Probably what has happened is the main motor shaft has turned inside the arm that is attached by a nut. You would have to disassemble the cowl under the windshield and loosen the nut. Reposition the wipers where they are supposed to be and see what happens.

Thanks Brandon, I checked the motor, etc. and nothing had moved. The wipers work normally from top to bottom of the range of movement. But when turned off the wipers go right to the bottom, then return half way up the windshield and then stop.
I did an unconventional fix, that I just got lucky on, on the first try. (If my car had less rust, I probably would have worked a little harder to fix the problem properlythe black/violet wire near theewall connector. Doing this caused the delay wiper feature to be disabled, but when the wiper switch is turned to "Off", the wiper motor stops instantly. So you just have to get the timing down. If the correct fix turns up, then I can easily reconnect the black/violet wire. Hope this helps someone else. |
