Best weight oil for 89 300e
Using castrol/valvoline 15x40 year round in a 1989 300e located in NC state. Owners manual shows 15x40 oil, mechanic say 20x50, what weight is mostly used by 300e owners.

Here's Mercedes recommendations. Note that many people on this board use 15W-50 Mobil 1 as I do. However, I feel that any name brand oil that's at least 40 weight will work just fine.

.... and, if you have a lot of time on your hands, use the SEARCH button up to the right and type in OIL as a search word .... but be prepared, it is probably one of the most discussed topics on this site. For an example: Oil: Weight, not brand Haasman

When I bought my 95 E320 new in 95, the dealer always put in 10-30. And this was south central Texas (San Antonio)...doesn't get much hotter anywhere in the US.
And this is what I'm still putting in both my E320's with a combined 210,000 miles...never a problem and neiither one use any oil. I see the recommendations now for 10-30 say -4 to 50 degrees. What has changed I wonder? |
