Database and Collections of Information Misappropriations Act
 

Has anyone heard about this legislation which is being proposed in Congress? If I understand it correctly, it could stop the reproduction of factual information in forums such as this. Does anyone have any knowledge of this legislation?

Are you talking about HR3531 from back in 1996? That bill went to the Judiciary Committee & never came out, or are you referring to something else?

I think that it could be argued that this is a commercial site that profits from providing factual information to consumers who would otherwise have to pay for access to a database like alldata or I'm sure MB has their own database for its dealers. I don't know, I've just seen the press articles on the proposed bill. Although they seem to indicate that forums like this could be affected if the bill becomes law. Hopefully it will not.
