Gasoline Brand Recommendations
After speaking with a mechanic this morning and a presentation by BP representatives yesterday, I started thinking about brands of gasoline. Up until recently, I thought all brands were pretty much the same.
What are your thoughts on brands of gasoline? Apparently the key to good clean burning gasoline are the additives. And I've been told the non-name brand gasolines have little or no additives. Are there any good sources of information that compares gasoline quality? Thanks. |
I have usually stayed with a Quality brandnames like Chevron, Shell, Mobil, Texaaco, BP, and Sunoco.
Once in a while, I'll fill-up the C36 powered wagon with Sunoco's 100-octane unleaded. That combined with my chip that has more advance delivers some beautiful sounds and power output. :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |
Most gasoline markets have regulatory requirements for the fuel blend and a detergent/deposit control additive is always required. Most stations in a given geography, regardless of brand, buy fuel from the same local wholesalers, and the slight difference in additive package is blended in the tanker truck.
Bottom line is that most gasolines in a given market are essentially the same, but brands try to differentiate through advertising. I recall one petroleum industry engineer recommended a strategy of switching brands regularly. This way you get the benefit of all the various additives packages used by the different brandks. Duke |
