E220 ALARM cannot switch off
 

Bought E220 estate (W124) 1 wk ago, alarm remote lights but does nothing.
Replaced batery today (lost voltage) on re connection alarm triggered and I cannot switch off.
Can anyone help PLEASE ????
PS Where is the reciever for the remote control?
by the way nearest dealer 1+1/2 hours away

On my w124 wagon (1995 E320) the receievers are located in the driver's door handle where the key lock would otherwise be, and in the tailgate where that lock would be. Is it the flip out key / transmitter unit? If the red light glows, than the remote has power and should be sending the signal. They have a short range, and you MUST point the transmitter at the receiver in the door or trunk / gate in order for it to function, as it is infared, just like the remote to your TV. If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have alarm problems. I do, as the alarm only functions correctly from the tailgate.
