Found vacuum leak. Where to connect? (E230 8v)

Below is a photo of the vacum source which is not connected in my car. The car is running much better if I plug it.
I need to know what it is used for and if everyone has it open or connected to something.

isn't that supposed to connect to the brake master cylinder?

I know it makes a huge difference on my car, if I disconnect it, the car won't even start.

There is surely a loose vac line somewhere. The purge line is under the fuel distributor (two nipples right next to each other), so that may be the line for the transmission modulator -- do you have a very harsh shifting problem too? If not, it may be to the EZL ignition module on the fender -- make sure that hose is connected or you will have funny ignition timing.

Can't place it exactly, as I only have a 300E and don't remember a vac tap on that particular runner.

If you cannot find where it goes right away, at least plug it, you are sucking dirty air down the engine!

Hurshi,

Is your car an automatic transmission ? Is your "economy"meter working ? On most MB's with auto trannies there is a vac or boost connection from the manifold to a switch over valve. And as yours is not a Diesel, there should be a line from the manifold to the economy meter as this works on reading the manifold "press" or better, the manifold vacuum for non turbo's.
Let us know your findings...

I still can't find what it is used for.
Here is a picture from the top with a better view of the vacum connections.
The red arrow on the left indicates to brake vacum and red arrow on the right indicated to ignition advance and economy gauge vacum line.
Inside green box is the vacum connector I am interested in.

My car is manual 5-speed. It currently has no bad idle or ignition problems. The economy gauge is working fine too.

2.3 liter owners please help.

My reference has lousy diagrams, but it may go to the purge switchover valve.

Another thought, look under the air cleaner assembly and see if there is a dangling vac. hose.
