1977 240d no fuel at injectors

77 240d manual with 128K.

Wife drove car into garage, ran good. next day wouldn't start.

changed primary and secondary filters. Only 3000 miles on them.
fuel is car ran good before this happened.

go to start it the next day and glow plugs stayed on longer than normal (not a cold day either). Engine cranked normally. No smoke, sounds like not getting fuel--obviously.

My question is, what controls fuel supply shut off? mechanical or vacuum. Is there a way to bypass.

what shuts the pump off? mechanical or vacuum?
Is there an aluminum colored box under the dash that controls the shut off? Vehicle does have the manual red shutoff lever.

by the way, the hand pump works, can hear noises inside pump when bleeding out.

Hope that helps

Shut off is controlled by vacuum. Failure usually means engine will not shut off, not that it won't start. It's just vacuum lines between the ignition switch and the shut-off. Could be an air leak in the system causing a lack of fuel. Are you getting fuel from the tank? It's not unheard of that the screen in the tank gets plugged up. One way to check the system is to get some diesel purge and see if it runs when you follow the directions on how to suck it in. If it runs on purge, it's probably a problem in the tank or lines somewhere upstream from the plastic filter.
