Rookie Benz owner needs help! '87 190e
I have owned this care one week. It was a great week. But this beautiful car now sits beautifully in a parking lot.
I turned the ignition and heard a "poof" of some kind. It sounded like a miny explosion of some kind. I then smelled a burning smell. The sound and smell appeared to be from right near the front dash. The car will not start, it simply turns over and over like it not getting fuel. After i let it sit, it will fire but quickly die. Should I start with the Fuel Pump Relay? Could it blow loud like a big fuse and burn? And yet it doesnt visibly look bad. Any ideas? |

i hope it is a fuse
My power and lights are still on, so i assumed it couldnt be fuses. But i will go and check each on nonetheless. Thanks for pointing out the obvious that I seemed to miss.

Shonn it is best to start with the fuel, air, fire basics. You need to determine which one of the three has left your engine. Hot blue-white spark at the plugs? Fuel delivery/ pressure to the nozzles? And intergity of the compression, timing and manifolding i.e. no massive vacuum leaks disrupting the cise sensor plate. There are many many specific things it could be but it will be a disruption in either the fuel/air/fire sequence. You need to determine which is missing and then pursue the diagnosis in that direction.
