1996 Audi A4 quattro
Anyone know anything about these cars ?? What to look for ?
A close friend is considering a purchase. Car has had 1 owner all books and records looks beautiful Thanks for your help. |
A close friend has a 96 2.8 (non-quattro). At 65K miles, he had to replace the head gasket, valve cover gaskets, and alternator, to the tune of $1800. I have not heard fastastic things about Audi reliability.

my friend had a 98 A4 1.8T, but it wasn't a quattro. I drove it at times as well. seemed fine. he didn't have any major problems till 110K. He was the second owner and bought it at around 70K. All I can say is, compared to my w124, his A4 seemed to be 'trouble free'

I have a friend that bought a 1998 1.8T, and it's been okay, but not as good as he'd hoped. He's had all kinds of electrical and stalling problems. He thought about trading for a 2.8, but the "Audi locals" told him not to, for fear of gaskets, tranny problems, and even more electrical gremlins.
We wanted an AWD car, and bought the Subie. |
CR predicts Audi A4's reliability is poor, Mercedes C Class' reliability is very poor.
This is for 2004 models, but based on data obtained with previous year models. In IIHS frontal offset crash test, Audi A4 showed very low A pillar and foot rest intrusion level. Just a little more intrusion than Mercedes C class, but less intrusion than most other comparable cars. |
Maybe we're all bias.
epinions.com overall rating was very good. :) |
