Question No ABS - 560SL

Hello,

Recently purchased an '87 560SL and am trying to work the bugs out of it..

ABS in this car is either dead or seems to have been disabled by the previous owner (he disabled a few things like the monovalve because he couldn't figure them out...)

No ABS light comes on when I turn the key to the first position (all of the other inst. cluster bulbs DO light up except for ABS). Tried a quick stop on ice and there is definately no ABS activity.

Where should I start looking? I know if the OVP is bad, it will make the light go ON, so I'm assuming that's OK.

I'm thinking of checking the ABS fuse (someone told me there is a fuse on the ABS unit under the hood.. do I just remove the plastic cover with an allen wrench?)

What's my next step assuming that fuse is good.. I can't imagine a bad sensor or control unit causing the light to not come on. Is there another fuse or relay somewhere so I can enable the system?

Thanks!
Neal

pull the cluster and make sure the bulb is in there. if so, swap it to a socket you know works. if he uplugged the monovalve, he probably pulled the bulb. and i'd replace the ovp relay anyways. good luck, chuck.

There is no part of the system that makes the light come on. The light is turned OFF by the ABS. If you remove the ABS controller the light will stay on.

As mentioned above you should start with the bulb/bulb circuit. Then see if the light goes out when the engine starts. Removing the bulb will cause the system to deactivate.
