Bizarre problem with 560 SEL rear seat switches
 

My rear passenger window regulator broke. Local dealer repaired it. Now, I have a new bizarre problem.

Both rear windows work, but rear passenger seat does not heat, and I can't adjust the seat from either the passenger or driver's side. Furthermore, the switch that operates the passenger side heated seat indicates "on" at all times although the seat does not heat. This light will go out when I hold in the seat adjustment switch on the driver's side. It seems like a weird electrical gremlin to me, but I would like your perspective(s).

My first inclination is to return to the dealer and have them fix it, but they had to keep my car overnight because they got caught up in other work. Plus, when I got it back it was in the shape described above. I don't know how much faith I should have in them.

That is strange. I would take it back to the dealer. Sounds like something that they have broken.

As far as the rear seat adjustment, sounds like one of the switches has gone bad is is poorly connected. My rear seat has stopped adjusting, and for now I will let it be as it keeps the chillen from playing with it (suginami, I figured why it stopped working wwhen you tried it - the driver's side switch is dead). An easy check for the bad switch is done at night, the switch should be back lit, so check for back lighting, the dark one is the bad one.

I suspect about the same for the heater switch, probably bad or a poor connection. If fact I will venture a guess and expect you will find the dark adjustment switch on the same side as the switch which always shows heat. I cannot remember how similar the pin layout is for the two swicthes, but it might be possible they are crossed.

EDIT: in a quick re-read of the original post I see that the passenger side was worked on. That is where I would start.

I woke up this morning thinking that the mechanic probably crossed the switches when he had the door apart.

I know how to get the entire unit out of the door but do not know how to unplug the individual switches without breaking them. Do I simply give them a good hard pull or is there a trick to unplugging them?
