I'm getting ready to replace a head gasket on a '91 2.3 190E. Besides milling and magnaflux, is there anything special I should know or be prepared for? ie. special tools etc. What are the best gaskets to use to use, factory or aftermarket?

Is the gasket mixing oil into water? Or did engine overheat? Resurfacing of cylinder head should be done only if it is warped.
Never use any HEAD gasket that isn't OE quality (Elring, Goetze, & Reinz). Normally on M102.985 the FACTORY gasket is made by Elring.

I haven't pulled the head off, but it's not mixing with oil, it does have exhaust being "pumped" through the coolant, and white smoke. It was overheated do to a ruptured heater core. Regardless, a local MB mechanic said he'd do it on the side for a reasonable price ($250) plus parts. Let the headache become his at that price!!! Thanks for the info.
