Benz engine in a Jeep?
 

I've just heard that MB is putting a V8 in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee(sp?). Anyone heard of this and what engine model it is? I'm doing research for a friend.

all I know about new benz engines is the next diesel and gas gen are going to be based off of the same engine design. first time this has been attempted as far as I know since GM attempted it. let's hope the technology has been improved.

I hear it will have the Hemi engine. it is not a Benz derivative as far as I know

I do think MB will either be supplying, or designing the engines for the new Grand Cherokee. This woud replace their current 5.7 liter HO engine. The HEMI would be an option for the Grand Cherokee, right out of the Durango and Ram. I also think we will see a variation of the MB 5-speed automatic offered on the new Jeep.

Dont they already use a diesel MB engine in europe in the jeeps? i think i read that somewhere, and seeing as how merc. is releasing a new Diesel V8 that might be it. bout time if they are, my aunt replaced he jeeps engine like 4 times over 6 years.

I know that MB and VW just made pact on sharing their diesel engines starting next year, if I am not mistaken.

I didn't know they were going to put the diesel in the Cherokee- local dealer said Liberty will be out early/mid 04 with diesel. Yes I will have to get one to replace the 86 Izuzu (Heck, probably owe Isuzu money for having it so long).;)
