Put a new thermostat in your car. Mercedes will not cool properly without a thermostat. Your car should run at about 100C.

Maybe your fanclutch is not working properly.
Check other posts for info on how to check fanclutch.

is this the fan in front of the raditor if so mine works fin i just replaced the sencor twice

Larry Delor 06-24-2000 03:48 PM

Nope, its the one driven by the engine, with a belt. (Between the radiator and the motor)

Benzman500 06-24-2000 03:53 PM

it spins fin but could it not be spining fast enough

Larry Delor 06-24-2000 03:55 PM

When you try to spin it, it should not spin loosely at all. It should feel like it barely wants to be spun...maybe a couple of inches, when you really try to spin it.

I doubt that it's the fan clutch, because (if I've read the message correctly) the problem is that it gets hot while he's driving pretty fast (he wrote, "...even on the interstate..."). The fan is only useful during idle and low driving speeds -- at fast road speeds, air flow through the radiator should be adequate regardless of the condition of his fan clutch.
The problem probably lies elsewhere.

any ideas as to why and if i get it up to 90 95 it cools downs quick

Larry Delor 06-25-2000 11:26 PM

I have heard that non MB rebuilt waterpumps do not have the close tolerances that MB rebuilt pumps have. Could your pump be non MB rebuilt? (that only when youre going 90 the engine revs fast enough to pump the water fast enough?) Once the engine is warm, do the hoses appear to be pressurized at least a little? And, with the engine off, are there any cool spots on the radiator when it obviously shoud be hot?
Check these things and post to your hearts content.

There is something amiss with your water circulation, either the radiator is partially obstructed, or you have air in the cooling system and it needs to be "burped".
