My 89 300E runs like a champ except for one little problem--the gas pedal. It seems to be very "heavy" while I accelerate. When I say "heavy", I mean it feels very hard to push down. Im kinda used to driving cars that have "light" gas pedals, such as american cars, and new model cars. My father tells me that this is how all MB gas pedals are (myth?). I drove my friends 92 Ford crown victoria, and I just tapped the pedal, and the car took off. Is there a way I can adjust the gas pedal, so I can make it easier on myself to accelerate or will I be wearing orthopedic shoes by the time i'm 30??
Any input would be appreciated. Agron 1989 300E (108k miles) ------------------ |

does the pedal stick at all if so you need to lubracate the track my 1985 500sel is the same or you can just build up a stroner right foot

The pedal feedback WILL be heavier than a lot of other cars, but it shouldn't be difficult to push it down. If it's very hard to depress, then that may be an indication of a worn or poorly lubricated connection somewhere.
Personally, having become used to pedal resistance (all of our cars have pretty firm gas pedals), I find the light feel of other cars extremely annoying. anthony |

Both of my 300E's have a nice firm pedal feedback which I prefer to the mush of some american cars. Unless you feel a specific bind during pedal travel, I think you are OK. Just takes getting used to.

Before I sold my Pathfinder, I would nearly snap my neck stepping on the Pathfinder gas pedal. After having driven the 300D for a while, I was used to 'steppin on it'. "What a wussy pedal on the pathfinder", is what my thoughts were..."doesn't feel solid at all". Although, I must admit, that that impression went along with all of the plastic on the dash and console.

Thanks alot of your replies guys..
I guess i'm just gonna have to live with a firm gas pedal. I have to look at the bright side--when someones behind me honking me, and annoying me, I can just get out and shove my right foot up their.... Just kidding... Agron 1989 300E (108k miles) |

Is the stiffer pedal feed back caused by vacumn from the modulator? If your pedal goes soft all of a sudden is that a good sign of a vacumn leak?
Any comments welcome! 2.3 M102 |

My old 300 diesel had mechanical linkage that actually got a little bent where it runs through the firewall (and subsequently hung up), which caused a pedal so stiff that I acually broke the top half off after about six months. I had the linkage straightened and lubed and put a new pedal in and all was well.
Don't know if the 300 is a mechanical linkage system but may be worth looking into as leg cramps on long trips aren't much fun. |
