different than what has been explained to me previously on here (and what is shown in my Motorbooks W124 manual). There is no adjustment screw in the location behind the power steering reservoir. Has Mercedes ever utized the alternator for this purpose? Could it be possible that my model ('95 E320) uses the alternator to loosen the belt tension in preparation for replacement? I have yet to put the car on ramps to look but will do it over the next couple of weeks. thanks engatwork |

On the 94 & later cars the tensioner has a built-in spring & that keeps the tension at pre-set amount. There is a place on tensioner to place socket & move tensioner to release tension on belt. Very simular to "American" style tensioners. |
