I tried searching for this answer but couldn't find it - does the rear vent inan 88 420sel blow cold air in ac posiiton but not warm air in heat position? or is it just fresh all the time?

my 1985 500sel does whatever the control pannel says warm or cold

I believe that the rear vent will blow fresh air and/or AC but not heat. The heat should come out of rear vents under the front seats.

My 1987 owner's manual says you get fresh air only from center rear vent...no heat or A/C mixed in. Why rear seat passengers would want "fresh" 95 degree F air in the middle of July is beyond me.

What ever comes from center vent is supposed to come from rear vent, fresh air or a/c. The rear vent is directly connected to same channel as the center.
