A/C Compressor rebuiild - Nippondenso

My 190E appears to have a frozen a/c compressor. There is a rubber bushing on the face of the clutch which appears to have torn all the way around. This tells me the clutch engaged and the compressor DID NOT MOVE. Assuming the compressor is frozen, is it rebuildable by a DIY'er? Anybody done this? I see rebuilt compressors for sale for $200 to $300 for my car but if the rebuild is substantially less expensive, I'd do it myself.

Thanks!

Not a small undertaking, but doable:http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_Nippondenso_rebuild/911_Nippondenso_rebuild.htm

That article just covers how to replace the seals on a leaking compressor. If the internals are frozen, you've basically got a paperweight on your hands. Try turning the front of the compressor by hand - it will spin easily if the internals are OK. Make you decision from that point.

I'd be careful with rebuilt compressors...

I believe the mercedes sells a good rebuilt Nipppndenso. I think there is another company that sells a new denso style compressor for the mercedes. It's a lot of work to do the second time!!!!
