Remove motor mount top bolt

I am having a hard time to remove the left motor mount top bolt (17mm). The car is a 91-300E (124-M103). Any suggestion?

I changed my 87 300Es motor mounts in Nov. I used a box end wrench from below. I did not try a socket from above. I also did not use a torque wrench on either sides top bolt. George Murphy describes the procedure on p86 of the Star(Sept -Oct) MB Club magazine. Good luck

The only time I've ever been able to get one of those off, I was using a borrowed 17mm box end wrench, with the open end ground off, and a long pry bar for leverage against the wrench handle. (If you try this route, be careful what you use as a fulcrum! Pick something structural, and make sure nothing flimsy is in the way.)

You will probably have to jack the engine up for clearance -- with the mount collapsed, there isn't enough room to reach in from the top.

On my 190e, I removed the air flow meter and fuel distributor. This allowed almost a clear shot straight down to the top bolt.

With a long extension and swivel, I was able to break it loose. It was VERY tight and I tried everything else first.

Just make sure you are square on the bolt head and don't slip! You don't want to round the head, or then you'll really be screwed!
