Mysterious pull to the left

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I'm still struggling trying to find out exactly what's causing this slight pull to the left on my car. It pulls left during normal driving and gets worse under braking.

I have gone to several mechanics and no one can figure out the problem. One suggested alignment, but the alignment pros said that it was properly aligned.

My driver's side tire (just bought 6 months ago) is already showing excessive wear on the outer rim but the passenger side's one is O.K. (possible a bit worn there as well, compared with the rears. The tires I replaced months ago were worn bald on both outer rims on the front)

I also sometimes hear a slight squealing noise when making right turns, but I thought it might be the belt.

One mechanic said it could also be the lower control arm bushings ($$$!) that haven't been replaced yet (I did the uppers last year)

Any ideas ???

thanks,

What to do:

a) replace the worn tire with a good one, as an unevenly worn tire will make the car pull to the left anyway.

b) get an alignment. Without doing it there is a very good chance that you are pulling to the left due to a bad alignment.

c) If you brake and it pulls to the left, then that is brake related. This is a second problem, so you need to fix the first problem and then tackle the second one afterwards. To tackle this one, first change the pads, look at the rotors and either put them back if they are good, turn them if not, or replace them with new ones. Then road test again to see.

d) If you suspect bearings, you should jack the tire up and try to rock the tire back and forth:

1. If there is left/right play while rocking then the tie rod ends could be bad.

2. If there is up/down play while rocking (one hand on bottom, one hand on top) then the bearings could be bad.

Hope this info helps!
