W124 loud a/c fan noise
 

I've wondered since I purchased my car if others have experienced the same "problem" as I have. If it is normal, so be it. Otherwise, I'll need to fix it because it is driving me crazy.

What I'm talking about is the noise from the fan behind the temperature control knobs behind the center dash console. There are three fan positions; low, auto, and high.

High is way too much and auto is almost as worthless. However, on the low speed, and when stopped at a red light or just about any other time when the road noise is not too great, I hear a constant fan "buzz" all the time. It is quite annoying.

Should that fan be so loud? Or, is there something wrong with my system?

I long for the fan control on my old 240D. Very simple. In fact, elegant in its simplicity.
