Help!Traney problem 1987 SEC 560

My wifes car. This car snaps to the rear when you put it in reverse. It results in a big jerk that is very unpleasent most all the time. If it sits over nite the first time you crank it and go into reverse it does not snap at all or as bad, but drive it and the jerking in reverse is a sure thing. What is going here? Is there a easy fix to this problem for an otherwise very nice car. Thanks.

What is the idle speed?

tosbt 01-11-2004 11:32 AM

About 800 RPMs.

About 800 is too high. The warm idle speed should be around 5-600 and that is with a tach not the indicator on nthe dash. The dash indicator is lucky to be accurate to within 200rpms.

Just got back from a long drive in her 560 SEC, one thing I noticed big time is that at the temp went up the snap became more pronounced in ALL grears. What could that mean? Thanks for your help.

You might have a vacuum leak in the supply line to the modulator. The source is down the back side of the motor. Follow the vacuum line from the brake booster. The line plugs into a fitting at the same point as the booster supply.
