ASR problem solved!
I just want to let my fellow members know that I have had the dreaded ASR "limp home mode" problem withy my 500E for the last couple months. I had Boundary Mercedes in Vancouver scope the car and see what it is. It ended up being the Throttle Position Switch. This is a $55.00 part Canadian. I am very happy with the service I got and they added new clips for my body mouldings and a new wiper for no cost. I want to post this news because I think it is important to have the car scanned for the appropriate codes before parts are thrown into it. I also wanted to add about the great service which in many posts seems to be lacking at the dealers lately. My 500 is now very happy;) Cheers!

It is always nice to hear about happy endings.

Would my '95 S320 have a throttle position switch like that or is that part of the ETA (Electronic Throttle Actuator $1,000.00 !!!) in a W140?
My tech told me that my ETA indicates "open throttle" and therefore I get a check engine light and at times the ASR issue. He told me I need a new ETA. Anyone knows? Thanks, Sab. |
It could be Sab..
Get Mercedes to pull the codes. On my invoice it states that it was only 1 hour labour to diagnose the problem and the switch was it!
dtf, it is a happy ending:D You sometimes never know. I could have got the call about ECM or worse! I love my car again..... Shaun |
If you have those . . . .
DTCs that were read, you would help all of us out. Please post them if you do.
|
Hers are the DTC Jim.....
Here is what it reads on the bottom of the invoice:
Road test check for DTC found 051 224 117 prepare for electrical test, perform electrical test M16/1s2 OK, prepare for socketbox test, perform socketbox test, RE $ RE L/F carpet & underdash panel, replace closed throttle position switch, clear DTC, note if problem still persists may require Throttle valve actuator, REC overnight roadtest." Tnx for the DTC info . . . . .
but those numbers do not compute in my reference material for a '92 500E.

Well Jim..
....that's what it says on the invoice. I copied it right off the bottom. What should the numbers look like? Could these be Canadian codes? All I know is so far so good. I wish I could be more help.

Hey everyone I'm new to this forum. I just bought a S320 and the dashboard looks like a christmas tree.
I have ABS, ETA and SRS lights on. Any clues!!!??/ Tks. |
Andres, check the condition of the voltage regulator brushes. They may be worn down so far that the battery is not recharging properly. If so, simply replace the voltage regulator.

Yes, nice to hear a success story. Where I am, there is no dealer, and no indy left still actively working who knows anything about older Mercedes. You're fortunate. My manuals, my noggin, and this forum are what I rely on.

Fred,
Thanks for your response. SRS light turns off now after about 30 to 60 seconds of running the car. ABS and ETA lights are still staing on. |
