Some good info on OBD-II and codes...

This is a PDF manual for the INNOVA 3100 OBD-II code reader. I amthinking of buying one and was doing some research. The manual is on-line as is a pretty good primer on OBD-II...

will it read proprietary codes ?

I did not get a chance to go through the manual yet. I am curious to know if it will read propriatary codes such as P1xxx
P0xxx (0) is generic code as part of the OBD-II protocol. But each manufacturer also includes (1) P1xxx (P is for powertrain) codes that mean an event specific to that manufaturer.

Yup, it read prop codes, and it's $179USD or $249CDN.

Reading of OBDII codes is no different for P1xxx than P0xxx. The difference is that there is no generic definition. A reader that reads one will read the other. If the reader gives definition to the code it probably won't for P1xxx or the newer P2xxx codes.

Check ebay for these, it looks like you can easily get them for close to $100-110.
