Can someone verify that the pn# for the Neutral Safety Switch for a 1995 E320 wagon is 000.545.49.06 ?

Also, is the bushing in questions pn# 115.992.03.10 (it's a hard clearish plastic bushing), or is it roller pn# 126.278.00.17

Thanks,
:-) neil

Hey Neil - just walked out to my trunk and looked at the one I have. The box says 51369 and 'replaces 0005454906'. Curiously the part itself is stamped with the ,,,4906 number. Confused yet?

I had to check the WIS, the correct pn# is still: 000.545.49.06

As such, I had a new one in stock, replaced it, and all is well.

BTW: the two clearish plastic bushings are pn# 115.992.03.10

Should be pretty easy -- pull tranny lever, unbolt switch (three screws or bolts), replace tranny lever and probably put a new plastic bushing in. Adjust siwtch and drive away. Only real difficulty I've ever had was that the top screw was a bear to get out -- replaced with a hex head rather than a screw slot type.

Sorry to bring up a thread from the grave, but I've got a similar problem on my 87 300D. Just finished replacing the shifter bushings and trans filter, and absolutely NOTHING happens when I try to crank over the engine. All dash lights and headlights work fine, and I've had the battery on a trickle charger for several hours now. Up to the start position, things seem to be fine, i.e. glow plug light/buzzer come on appropriately, etc. What is the adjustment referred to above for the NSS?
Another curious thing - I've been doing several maintenance things to the car, and it's sat for quite a while because I was deployed. Just now getting back to finishing it up. Under the dash, next to the ignition cylinder, there are two wires leading up to a connector that's not touching anything. The wires are red w/ white, and red w/ green. Any idea if that's related to this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

See if the reverse lights work, when you put the shifter in R, report back.

Just checked - the reverse lights do not work when the shifter is in R. Also, spinning the white collar on the NSS does not seem to cause them to come on regardless of position.

mmmm, I think that one you loosen the attaching bolts and the whole switch moves to adjust it? Put it in R again and try adjusting til reverse lights come on. There is a fancy way involving a hole in the switch, another in the trans housing, and a 1/8" drill bit. But adjusting in R til the R lights come on works too.

That white collar is just the lock ring for the plug..the rotational adjustment of NSS is in Gilly's thread.

You guys rock. I definitely let my guard down and got hit with an ID10T error on this one. When I reconnected the shift linkage, I installed the bracket that goes to the transmission end backwards, so the section that should have slipped over the plastic tab on the NSS didn't touch it. Dropping the linkage and flipping it solved the problem immediately. Thanks for helping out a poor lost soul!
