Soft closing doors S280 1998 W140
 

Hi,
On my driver’s door when I close the door softly, the door closes itself with the soft closing mechanism, however after 10 secs the door pops out about 5mil. It is flush with the rear door, so I presume when it self closes it is going in too much.

Any idea why this is happening.

The closing feature pushes the door mechanism to its activated extent. This is usually 2mm beyond the second lock position. After ten seconds or so it is released to the second lock position where it is held with the lock mechanism and doesn't hold against the closing diaphram. It is either not pulling past the second lock and is releasing to the first lock or it is pulling too far and releasing properly to the second lock position but with more than normal release distance. It should only release 2mm.

This is all probably adjustable.
