Intermittent blower motor noise??

Hi all,

After replacing the blower fan unit last Dec, i'd been using the EC mode and low fan speed all the time and it works fine.

Last week on a very cold morning, around -20, my wife was taking the children to school and she called saying that there's noise coming from the fan that ran in non EC mode. Now this intermittent, sounded like a bad bearing noise, occurs whenever the Auto fan speed and non EC mode was selected.

The question is why it doesn't come in EC mode + low fan speed?
Any suggestion?

Thanks and have a nice day.

May be a combination of temp and blower speed. The blower in the Volvo used to scream once in a while when very cold, replaced it and have lower air flow at low speed but no screech.

I have this annoying noise from my blower motor when it's very cold outside, the noise disappears when blower blows at higher speed.

My problem is caused by a warped squirrel cage on the blower, there isn't much clearance between the squirrel cage and the housing, when it's cold the cage warps further and scratches the plastic housing, this is where the noise from, at higher speed, the cage straightens itself due to centrifugal force therefore noise disappears. In your case, the motor is new, it may be mounted slight off the center or the worst case, the squirrel cage is damaged during the installation.

The squirrel part has to be ordered with blower motor which is a $250+ part, it hasn't bothered me enough to waste 150$+for the motor that I don't actually need.
