What does this light represent
 

I have a 300e 4-matic that I purchased 3 months ago, some of the indicator lights had burned out, so I replaced them. One light is confusinig to me it looks like a circle with 3 small dashes surrounding it on each side. Anyway when I replaced the bulb I found that the light would blink when I slowed down and I could make it stay on if I stopped the car at just the right spot. At first I thought this was the ABS light ,but I have one of those also. Anybody Know?:rolleyes:

This is a yellow light right?

In the manual it says it is your 'brake pads worn down' warning light.

Yes the light is yellow, but the brakes are completely new front and rear could it be a sensor in the brake system?

the real MB techs will know more than me, but I know there are sensors on each wheel and from what i remember these should be replaced when new brakes are done. I'd hazard a guess at a faulty/loose/dirty sensor...

Another thing to keep in mind. If yuo say the brakes are new and all the sensors are OK. Since you obviously have purchased teh car used you can never really know if the instrument cluster has been pulled before which in turn when not properly or porrly reinstalled, I have read many times, that the conenctions for the lights are not done correctly. Therefore, what you think is the brake pad light could/should be another warning light.

keep this in mind though I do recomend that you ahve the brakes checked out, maybe the sensors are not connected or bad.

Typically, the sensors are on the front only for the W124-series models.

The sensors work by contacting the rotor when brakes are applied, thus completing the circuit necessary to illuminate the brake pad indicator light.

You can do a visual inspection of your pads to determine how much material has worn. But if your brakes are indeed new, then improper install can cause a sensor problem.

I believe there was a post not too long ago where the poster discovered a pinched sensor wire or insulation worn off and the sensor contacting metal. Either way, the sensor making contact with metal will certainly fire up that light...

On rear drive only W124 cars, sensors only in the front wheels. On 4-Matic (AWD) cars, sensors in the front & rear wheels. My RWD E320 has this problem, and I think the brakes are O.K. The light has only come on recently, though, so I will check out thoroughly. The sensor is independent of the brake pad, and must be installed into the brake pad upon replacement of the pads.
