Does anyone know what this wire is?

Last week I changed the thermosat on my car. While doing so, I noticed that I have a wire that comes from underneath the block, behind the power steering resovior, along with other wires and hoese, but this wire is not connected to anything.
The car: 1988 190e 2.3L 8v. The wire: Is blue and red striped, has a female conector at the end and the plastic around the female conector is clearish green. I was in a rush this morning so I could not go underneath the car and see where it comes from, so I just took a pic to see if anyone here would know. But even though this is not conencted to anything, the car runs great! Real smooth idle, starts right up in the mornings? No warning lights on in the cluster? Here is a pic (any ideas/info?: |

The pic turned out to be little small, lets see if I can get this one on.

My initial guess (based on the fuzzy pics ;) ) would be the oil level (not pressure) sender connection.
Plugs into a spade located on the oil pan... |
So if the oil level? If it plugs into the oil pan where does the other end go up top? I do not see any other connectors that is missing a wire? And when I turn the key to the one position, I have the oil light on and when start the car the lights goes off as it should. If it is the oil light - would not hte dash light always remain on due to failure of sensor?
The car is running great, so I have no idea what this is and where it goes? Thanks,. Iggy |
