Mercedes Warranties

What is the major differences between the Mercedes new car warranty and the Starmark warranty. I'm looking at two cars, an '02 from private party with 2 years of factory warranty left and an '00 from a dealer with two months factory warranty and two years of Starmark warranty. What do you think?

No experience with Starmark, as mine is a 1989 and hardly qualifies. However, a Google on "mercedes starmark warranty" turned up this as the first hit:

A search on this board should also provide some help. Again, hope it helps!

The MB warranty is 50,000 miles or 5 years and the Starmark is an option (on specific pre-owned cars) to buy when you buy the car from a dealer. Covers lots of things, almost bumper to bumper, for a very reasonable price, no third party involved. It can be bought out to 100,000 miles or three addtional years. I think it is about $700 per year of purchase of coverage. I've had them on both my cars and they were both worth it for peace of mind at the minimum. Sometimes they overlap, for example my 99' E300 Turbodiesel is still under warranty (barely) but I bought the Starmark to cover it out to 100,000 miles or 2005. I think there is also an option to extend the Manf warranty too but I'm not sure of those attributes. Hope this helps. I recalling this stuff off the top of my head so some specifics might be a little different but the concept between the two packages is right.

In Canada it's called the Signature Warranty, and it's just the extended factory warranty with some exclusions. It's not "bumper to bumper" in that only the parts listed in the warranty are covered. The original warranty is more inclusive.

When I bought it for my C230, it was cheap.

The thing I like is that dealer is in the driver's seat. There is no complicated process for claiming. They say it should be fixed, it is.
