temperature for tranny level check
1992 300D.
My notation D: distance between min and max mark on the stick. It was about 16 degrees F outside. According to manual, I run the engine about 2 minutes with gear at P, and then check the transmission fluid level. I drove about 3 minutes at low speed (20MPH or less). Then I parked and checked the level. The tranny fluid level was about half D below min. Then I drove highway about an hour, parked and checked the level. The coolant temperature gaugue was a little above 80 degrees C. The tranny fluid level was about one D above max. How do you check tranny fluid level in winter? |

Get the tranny fluid to normal operating temp by driving it for 15 minutes and then check it. If over filled you should remove some of the fluid. The best way toremove itis with a suction unit and a tube. Local auto store sell these. They are the designed for fluid extraction.
Check it on a flat ground. With the car in park. Do not use a rag that has any lint. Your fingers are the best way to wipe the dipstick. Clean fingers. Dave
