600 SEL Engine Harness (ASR) Problems

I could use some help I am having problems with my ASR and someone told me that the engine harness could be the cause of 90% of all my problems I have been having with my car that the harness is bio degradable from the factory and that I should have replaced my harness years ago if this is true let me know and also were I can go to get a new harness with out having to mortgage my home to do so.. I know the harness is only 350.00 from dealer, but after spending over 12,000.00 in the past 6 months on this car trying to fix all the codes I am running out of money. Thanks

If your 600SEL is a 1993, 1994, or 1995 model, then the wiring harness is certainly bad (or going bad) if it is original.

However, it could be more than just your engine wiring harness.

Your engine has a throttle actuator (maybe two, I'm not sure), which has a wiring harness which suffers the same fate. And, the ASR function is one of the functions controlled by the throttle actuator.

What shop are you taking your car to, by the way?

I live in Diamond Bar, and drive 51 miles (one way) to a shop in the San Fernando Valley called Mr. MB Motors. Do a search on Mr. MB Motors, and you will find a large number of guys who take their cars to him all over the area. His knowledge is such that the local MB dealers take cars to him that they can't diagnose.

Check for crumbling insulation and bare wires. This same thing happened to my 1986 Volvo 740 Turbo. After replacing the harness I was suprised the car would even run. LOTS of bare wire under inside the covers.

$12K. Wow.
