heater fan/heater core
I spent some time searching, and can't find where this question has been answered before.
I have a '92 500E, and the climate control fan is starting to chirp. On many cars, the fan is very near the heater core. With almost 220,000 miles, should I go ahead and replace the heater core while doing the fan, to save labor from an almost certain core repair down the road? Also, I have changed a heater core in a few cars, to include a 525i BMW. Should I tackle this one myself, or is the 500E much more difficult? Are any special tools required? Mewing |
The blower fan can be replaced in 2-3 hrs from underhood.
The complete dash & heater case must be removed to replace the heater core OR the A/C evaporator. |
Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll do the fan myself now, and let my tech do the heater core when the time comes. I'll print the pages from my MB CD-ROM and look forward to the weekend!

Another related question. Do I replace the motor only, or the motor and fan(s)? There's quite a difference (+/- double, if the fans are included) in price for the parts.

With fan blades is the only way.
