I want to know if anyone has heard or is a member of the web site ALLDATA DIY. They charge $24.95 per vehicle a year and they say they can provide the DIY with everything they need to know about servicing or repairing a vehicle, including Mercedes Benz. Does anybody know if it is a reliable and worthy site to join? PEP

I purchased the DIY Alldata CD for my MB around late '97, early '98.

Unless things have changed, this CD is a total POS.

A tech I use for things that are over my head has a professional level subscription to Alldata. That product is much better and far more expensive than the DIY version.

You're not going to get much for $25. Live & learn.

My 2 cents.

I have it and use it a lot for working on my 560 sel. Its pretty good (not perfect), but what the heck, if it helps you solve one little problem yourself it will pay for itself a thousand times over. It helped me solve an electrical problem. My brother uses the professional version at his shop and he said its the same except that they have every car in the world on it and what you will get is the same technical help, but only for one make and model for $25, about the cost of five beers!

Additional makes and model cars are just $15 more which I might just do for my BMW.

I use it and like it. Additional vehicles are only $15 or so. DIY is car by car. The pro version is the full website (and financial tools such as invoicing and inventory). The DIY should be the same as the pro, just limited to the cars you sign up for. Also, it has TSBs, which the MB manuals do not have. I was able to diagnose my rear window hot short problem using the TSB for this area.

I prefer the CD manuals from MB where available. I have an ALLDATA subscription for the S420 and it's okay.

I subscribed to ALLDATA about 6 months ago & fully intend to renew when the time comes.
Find it very handy to look at something quickly, i.e. torque spec's, some basics, etc.
I sure wish there was a decent manual for my car, other than a Haynes, available only in the UK, and based on a 1994 model. :mad:

I had a subscription to alldata and found it useful. It had a lot of good information about specifications and mechanical tolerances on the car. I have let it expire, but I think I will resubscribe to it.

Very informative and a big money saver but requires prerequisite of literacy.

Yesterday I became a member of ALLDATA DIY and I've already found things about my car that are very useful in my quest to learn how to do the work and better my first Mercedes. Another thing, and I am guessing that most everyone is going to agree with me. "If you want something done right, you might as well do it yourself." This might not be true all the time, but I think is true most of the time. In the short time that I've visiting, reading and requesting info from this site I've learn a whole bunch from everyone's helpful advices and inputs.
