desparate for some tech help on my 93 190e
I took my air filter out. On top of the air filter cover is a soft big black rubber hose that goes to the valve cover. There is a very thin brownish pasta colored hard plastic hose/pipe that splits off from the big black soft rubber hose. Just by touching the thin plastic pasta colored hose/pipe it snapped in my hand. What the heck is this thin hard plastic hose/pipe and what do I do now? LOL Where did it go to? Please help me. I'm trying to fix my car not make more problems.

Been there, done that
That hose is originally white. I broke mine off too, but I forget what it does. (I did replace it.)

I cant even see where it goes to in my garage light. where did you get a replacement? is it important?
|
My guess is that it's the hose that goes to the reference port of the fuel pressure regulator. When you remove the air cleaner, you'll see the fuel pressure regulator somewhere ahead of the big airflow meter unit. There should be a stub of rubber hose protruding from the fuel pressure regulator towards the passenger side of the car. That's where the hard plastic line goes.

sixto is on the mark, fuel pressure regulator to air cleaner hose, the line is very important because it protects against external fuel leakage if the diaphragm leaks. Better to flood the engine than catch it on fire.

where can I get a replacement? I hope I can find where it connects. Is it safe to drive to buy the replacement? cant believe it just snapped.
|
Replacement platic line is available at any MB dealer. Maybe for less at a VW dealer. Just tell them how much you need. Buy a foot and trim to fit. It's not brittle when it's new.
You might have trouble finding the line in specific colors ro color coding but plain old white should serve you fine. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

The plastic line goes from the breather to the fuel pressure regulator (bronze coloured can) port; highlighted in green.
My plastic line broke off at the port and the replacement cost me like 3 bucks a foot if I remember correctly. Cheers.:D |
You are exactly right. Something was making my car run high rpms with it disconnected. I used a rubber bridge for the 2 broken halves. Does the rubber black boot come off the fuel pressure regulater? I dont wnat to break it off. its on tight. I think most my hoses like that are very brittal. I might replace them all.

The rubber boot does not come off...unless it's broken.:p
|
so do I just pull the hard plastic out and then put the new one in? Thanks for the great picture. You were 100% right

Yes - the plastic line, not the stub of rubber hose.

When I replaced my line, I used the thumb and forefinger of one hand to hold on to the stub while I used the other hand to pull at the line; so as to avoid streesing the "stub" and breaking it.
The "stub" comes fitted with every new fuel pressure regulator. If you break it, no need to worry coz you could probably figure out a way to "custom fit" the line to the port of the fuel pressure regulator. Cheers.:D |
