Floor mats - safe to machine wash?
 

Just wondering. Seems a lot easier than scrubbing out the stains...

Everything I've read about floor mats, both original and replacement, indicate they should be cleaned as you would any other carpet. I'd be afraid something might shrink or possibly come apart if they were machine washed. (Of course, if they're so dirty that you can't get them clean otherwise, what's to lose?)

I'd be careful, as the foam backing might come off.

A brush and good carpet cleaner brought my buckskin colored mats back to new.

I wash mine in the washer.

I shampoo mine with a brush then rinse by blasting away with the garden hose. I'd worry that too much mechanical agitation of the wash cycle may destroy the mat backing.

I put about two inches of water in my bathtub and some carpet cleaner solution. Then use a stiff brush and go to town. This made all 4 of my 380 sel palomino mats like new. They had 20 plus yrs of crud come off. Yo can use the shower for a rinse too:eek: les

I spray some kind of heavy duty cleaner, or oxy-clean on the bad spots, then spray with a pressure washer. Hang up to dry (over a fence, cloths line, or something like that.
The pressure washer gets all the way down to bottom of the nap and cleans out all the dirt and grime. I have been doing this on all my cars for years and have never seen any advers effects.
