Help! Is there any place I can buy a new AC compressor for my 87 300E for less than $900? I've been told that the remanufactured ones are junk. Is that true? What are my options? Thanks

After having fairly good results with OE MB Rebuilts, we have had three leakers this spring. We have started using a Japanese compressor with a brand name "Unicla. It is a new compressor with a clutch and only has two seals in its whole design; a shaft seal and a rear head o-ring.(no body orings like the Nippondenso's.
We could sell them for $466 complete. P.S. Its been years since aftermarket rebuits kicked our b**ts. You couldn't pay me to use one. ------------------ Steve Brotherton Owner 24 bay BSC Bosch Master, ASE master L1 26 years MB technician |
I see it's been 7 years since this thread was active!
What is your opinion of the Unicla's now? I found a new one for $400 for my 1987 300DT. It does not have the R4 compressor in it. I forgot what model they rep said I had, but it was not the R4. Anyone ever try retroing in an R4? -Jim |
