My 1987 190E is stalling. Need Help
I've search to see if anyone has a similar problem, but could not find anyone. I have a 1987 190E 2.6, automatic. The transmission has been rebuilt about 6months ago and since then my problem started. It could have just been a coincedence. I've spoken to a few people and they believe the two are not related.
My problem is that if I don't drive the car for one day, I will have a problem the next time I use it. I can start it with no problem and after about 10-15minutes of driving. The car would just stall, especially when I'm at a stop. A few cranks and I can start it again, but when I step on the gas, it feels as it is choking. Once I get going, I have to keep moving or it will stall again. This stalling event will keep going until the car, I think, warms up and everything is OK. If I drive it everyday or so many hours in between. It is OK. I mentioned in the beginning that I just had the transmission rebuit. The problem may not be related, but just a coincidence. Hope someone can help. |
Stalling
I had the same problem with my '88 260e. It would stall while idling or coasting to a stop. The problem was the air flow sensor pot had worn out. The part is located on the front of the air flow sensor. It can be replaced but MBZ does not sell the pot separately. I purchased one through Olyparts.com.
Do a search on airflow sensor pot and there should be a lot more information on the subject. There are many more causes of stalling and hesitation but if your car still has the original pot there is a good chance it is worn out. John |
